Deal definition

A deal is an executed transaction in which a buyer and seller agree to exchange an instrument at a set price and quantity. It applies across forex, shares, commodities, bonds, futures, options, and CFDs.

On a trading platform, a deal records the final execution details of a trade. These usually include the instrument, the direction, the execution price, the position size, the time, and any costs attached.

A deal is an event, not a participant, so do not confuse it with a dealer, the firm or person that trades on its own account. A deal is also different from an order: an order is the instruction to trade, while the deal is the completed execution that results once that order is matched or filled.

Deal Example

You place a market order to buy 1 lot of EUR/USD. The order fills at 1.0850.

That completed transaction is the deal, because the trade has been executed at a confirmed price of 1.0850 and a confirmed size of 1 lot.

The instruction you sent was the order; the filled result is the deal.
