USD/CHF Price Forecast: Bulls remain capped at 0.8185 as bearish pressure eases

  • With firm support above 0.8130, USD/CHF continues to struggle to clear resistance near 0.8185.
  • October saw Swiss consumer confidence fall to a four-year low.
  • Although downward pressure on the US Dollar is easing, buyers have yet to show conviction.

Support in the 0.8130-08150 zone is underpinning USD/CHF, while resistance at 0.8185 continues to cap advances and preserve the broader downtrend. On Friday, the US Dollar (USD) is edging higher against the Swiss Franc (CHF), though trading remains confined to earlier ranges. Doji candles on the daily chart reflect the market's indecision.

A fall in the SECO Consumer Climate Index to -42 points in the three months preceding October, from -35 in the previous month, helped support the pair following Friday's Swiss data releases. This was the index's lowest reading in four years. Swiss Foreign Currency Reserves also fell, reaching 759 billion in October compared with 770 billion in September.

Meanwhile, a technology-led equity sell-off is encouraging risk aversion, lending the US Dollar some support. After a series of encouraging labour market releases earlier this week, traders are preparing for a strong US Nonfarm payrolls report later on Friday.

Technical Analysis: USD/CHF Maintains Bearish Bias Below 0.8185 Resistance

Chart Analysis USD/CHF

At 0.8174, USD/CHF remains below immediate horizontal resistance at 0.8185, preserving the broader downtrend. There are early signs of improving momentum: the 4-hour Relative Strength Index (14) is nearing its 50 midline, while the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) has edged above zero. Even so, upward momentum remains tentative.

For an upward correction to gain scope, the pair must clear the 0.8185 zone, which marks Wednesday's and Thursday's highs, followed by the 3 November high of 0.8217. Conversely, a decisive move below Wednesday's 0.8127 low would turn attention to the early September lows in the 0.8050-0.8070 region.
