Fiber definition

Fiber, also spelled Fibre, is the forex slang term for the EUR/USD currency pair, where EUR is the base currency and USD is the quote currency.

Fiber shows how many US dollars buy one euro. At EUR/USD = 1.0850, one euro equals 1.0850 US dollars.

The name followed Cable: as GBP/USD was the cable, EUR/USD became the fiber, after the fiber-optic lines that replaced the old telegraph cable. Fiber is the most liquid pair, usually with tight spreads, and moves on European Central Bank policy, Federal Reserve policy, eurozone and US data, rate expectations, and risk sentiment.

Fiber Example

You see EUR/USD = 1.0850, so one euro equals 1.0850 US dollars.

If EUR/USD rises to 1.0950, traders say Fiber has risen as the euro gains on the dollar. If it falls to 1.0750, traders say Fiber has fallen.
