According to the latest reports from well-known Apple insiders, the company is testing a new feature that allows Siri to process multiple tasks in a single request. For example, users could ask Siri to check the weather, create a calendar event, and send a message — all at once. Currently, Siri requires users to issue these commands separately, making it less competitive compared to AI assistants like ChatGPT and Google Gemini.
This advancement is expected to significantly streamline user interaction and encourage broader adoption as a time-saving tool. It is also a foundational upgrade for future capabilities, including features that leverage on-device personal data and deeper app integration — such as allowing Siri to retrieve, edit, and send photos with a single command.
Apple plans to roll out this functionality as part of its next-generation operating systems later this year. The company is expected to officially unveil the new Siri and other AI features at its developer event on June 8.
As part of the transformation, Apple is making Siri more conversational, with plans to launch it as a standalone application. Future versions are also expected to include the ability to access the internet directly and summarize information — a feature internally codenamed “World Knowledge Answers.”
Apple first announced a major overhaul of Siri at its 2024 WWDC event, aiming to enable the assistant to understand personal user data and on-screen context. However, repeated engineering challenges have delayed the rollout, leading to widespread market perception that Apple has fallen behind in the AI race.
The latest updates also highlight how slowly Siri has evolved. While iOS 18 introduced improvements in maintaining context across sequential requests, Siri still only supports limited follow-up interactions rather than true multi-tasking capabilities.
Apple has also secured access to Google’s Gemini models through a partnership, allowing it to generate smaller, task-specific AI models — including lightweight versions that can run directly on Apple devices.
At the same time, Apple’s AI strategy is evolving. The company is developing new tools that will allow third-party AI chatbot apps installed via the App Store to integrate with Siri. This means users will be able to use Siri as a gateway to interact with other AI services already installed on their devices.
Market Interpretation:
This new strategy enables Apple to accelerate the integration of external AI services while monetizing AI subscriptions within its ecosystem. Similar revenue-sharing arrangements already exist in its partnership with OpenAI, suggesting that Apple is building a scalable and profitable AI services model on top of its platform.
