DOTUSD definition

DOTUSD is the market symbol for Polkadot (DOT) priced in US dollars, telling you how many dollars one DOT token is worth. Polkadot is a multi-chain protocol designed to let separate blockchains connect and exchange data through a shared central chain, and DOT is its native token, used for staking, governance, and bonding new chains into the network.

DOTUSD is traded as a crypto CFD, so you take a view on price movement instead of buying and storing DOT directly. Going long profits from a rising price, while going short profits from a falling one. The pair is quoted in US dollars, trades 24 hours a day, and shows the high volatility common across the crypto market.

What moves Polkadot includes the growth of chains connecting to its network, technical upgrades to the protocol, the pace at which new connected-chain slots are filled, regulation, and overall sentiment. Like most large altcoins it tends to track Bitcoin. Do not confuse Polkadot with Kusama (KSM), its faster-moving experimental network, which trades separately.

DOTUSD Example

Suppose DOTUSD is trading at $6.00 and you expect a decline, so you short a position of 200 DOT. The price falls to $5.40, a move of $0.60 per token in your favour, so your profit is:

200 √ó $0.60 = $120

If the price had instead risen to $6.60, the same $0.60 move would have cost you $120.
