Majors definition

Majors are the major currency pairs in the forex market: the US dollar paired with another heavily traded currency such as the euro, British pound, Japanese yen, Swiss franc, Australian dollar, Canadian dollar, or New Zealand dollar.

The common majors are EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/JPY, USD/CHF, AUD/USD, USD/CAD, and NZD/USD. They trade heavily because they represent large economies, deep financial markets, and active global currency flows.

Majors usually offer higher liquidity, tighter spreads, and faster execution than less-traded pairs. They react to central bank policy, inflation data, employment reports, interest-rate expectations, and global risk sentiment.

Majors Example

You want a highly liquid pair, so you trade EUR/USD, one of the most active majors.

As a major pair, it carries high trading volume, tight spreads, and strong liquidity during active market sessions.
