CMPUSD definition

CMPUSD is the market symbol for Compound (COMP) priced in US dollars, indicating how many dollars one COMP token is worth. COMP is the governance token of Compound, a decentralised finance (DeFi) lending protocol where users supply and borrow crypto assets without a traditional intermediary. Holding COMP gives a say in how the protocol is run, with token holders able to propose and vote on changes.

With CMPUSD you take a crypto CFD position, betting on where the price goes rather than acquiring and custodying the token. A long position profits if COMP rises; a short position profits if it falls. The pair is priced in US dollars, available to trade around the clock, and carries the high volatility typical of DeFi tokens.

COMP's price is influenced by the amount of capital active in the Compound protocol, the wider health of the DeFi lending sector, regulation aimed at decentralised finance, governance decisions, and broad market mood. It also tends to follow Bitcoin's direction. Take care not to confuse COMP with the protocol's interest-bearing cTokens, which are a separate part of the system.

CMPUSD Example

Say CMPUSD is trading at $45.00 and you open a long position of 20 COMP, expecting a recovery. The price advances to $52.00, a gain of $7.00 per token, so your profit is:

20 √ó $7.00 = $140

Had it slipped to $38.00 instead, the same $7.00 move against you would have cost $140.
