The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday that Iran has cut off direct communications with the United States (US) following President Donald Trump's threat to destroy Iran's whole civilization.

According to the news outlet, talks with cease-fire mediators continue but it has become more complicated to make a deal.

"A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will," Trump posted on Truth Social on Tuesday.

"However, now that we have complete and total regime change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen," he added.

Market reaction

Markets remain risk-averse in the early American session. At the time of press, the S&P 500 Index was down 0.72% on the day, while the Nasdaq Composite was losing 1.15%.
