3 Top Price Predictions: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple – Renewed selling as key technical hurdles and regulatory fears weigh on sentiment

  • $76,154 is Bitcoin’s trading price on Friday. A close beneath the 200-day EMA near $76,497 points to a bearish bias.
  • $2,237 is Ethereum’s trading price after a rejection at the previously breached ascending trendline, leaving downside risks elevated.
  • $1.22 is XRP’s trading price following its failure to secure a close above key EMA resistance.

Three leading cryptocurrencies face fresh selling pressure in the second half of this week: Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and Ripple (XRP). Investors are concerned that Democrats’ control of both chambers of the US Congress could bring tighter regulation of crypto and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Key resistance zones continue to constrain these top three cryptocurrencies. BTC has closed beneath its 200-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA), while rejections at important resistance levels for ETH and XRP also suggest a deeper correction may lie ahead.

200-day EMA breach signals further downside risk for Bitcoin

$76,157 is Bitcoin’s trading price on Friday. The correction continues below its key Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs), leaving the near-term outlook bearish.

Above BTC, the 200-day EMA stands at $76,497, followed by the 100-day EMA at $77,778 and the 50-day EMA at $79,837. This configuration suggests a dense band of medium- and longer-term trend resistance is limiting the market.

Momentum indicators reinforce the bearish picture. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) sits in the upper-30s, while the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) remains negative, suggesting rebounds could attract fresh selling.

The first upside barrier is the 200-day EMA near $76,497, with the 100-day EMA at $77,778 providing the next resistance. Beyond that, the 50-day EMA at $79,837 marks a higher supply zone before horizontal resistance around $85,000. The immediate data set offers no clearly defined support, so a pullback would likely need to establish a fresh floor below the spot price. Recovery attempts are also likely to face difficulty while BTC remains under this cluster of moving averages.

$2,237 Ethereum faces risk of a deeper correction

At $2,237 on Friday, Ethereum remains in a corrective phase beneath its major EMAs, with a bearish near-term outlook. Layered trend resistance continues to limit potential rebounds: ETH is below the 200-day EMA at $2,315 and the 100-day EMA at $2,348, while the 50-day EMA sits higher at $2,397.

Momentum looks weak with the RSI around 39. Although the MACD has turned marginally positive, upward attempts still appear to be struggling against existing overhead supply.

For a recovery, ETH first faces the 200-day EMA at $2,315, then the 100-day EMA at $2,348. The 50-day EMA at $2,397 and horizontal resistance at $2,400 create a dense barrier above those levels, ahead of the broken rising trendline near $2,412. Holding above this cluster would soften the current bearish outlook and clear a path towards the next major obstacle at $2,770.

Immediate downside support lies broadly within the current price zone. The more substantial structural floor is $1,823; a breach would leave Ethereum exposed to further losses within the broader correction.

$1.221 XRP remains under bearish control

At $1.221 on Friday, XRP retains a bearish near-term outlook. It continues to trade beneath the 50-day, 100-day and 200-day Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs), which cluster between $1.320 and $1.375.

The upper boundary of the falling channel, now projected near $1.257, has also proved beyond XRP’s reach. Weak momentum persists: the RSI is around 38 and the MACD is slightly negative near the zero line. Together, these readings suggest limited upside rather than a convincing recovery.

The upper channel boundary around $1.257 provides the first resistance, ahead of the horizontal barrier at $1.300. A heavier overhead supply zone comprises the 100-day EMA at $1.320 and the 50-day EMA at $1.326. Beyond it, medium-term obstacles lie at the 200-day EMA of $1.375, followed by horizontal levels of $1.540 and $1.900.

Initial downside support is the horizontal level at $1.160, followed by a stronger floor at $1.000. While XRP stays below the moving-average cluster, rebounds towards resistance are likely to be regarded as corrective moves within the broader bearish trend.

Cryptocurrency prices: common questions

By shaping demand and adoption, token launches influence market participants. An exchange listing increases an asset’s liquidity and brings additional participants into its network. The effect is generally bullish for the digital asset.

In a hack, an attacker uses exploits, bugs or other methods to seize a large quantity of an asset from a DeFi bridge or the hot wallet of an exchange or another crypto platform. The stolen tokens are then moved off exchange platforms, ultimately to be sold or swapped for other cryptocurrencies or stablecoins. Widespread panic often follows such incidents, triggering a sell-off in the affected assets.

The main channel through which macroeconomic events, such as US Federal Reserve interest-rate decisions, affect crypto assets is their direct impact on the US Dollar. Higher interest rates generally weigh on Bitcoin and altcoin prices, while lower rates typically have the opposite effect. A decline in the US Dollar index makes risk assets and the associated trading leverage cheaper, thereby lifting crypto prices.

By cutting miners’ block rewards in half, halvings restrict the asset’s supply and are therefore generally viewed as bullish events. With demand unchanged, reduced supply pushes the asset’s price higher.
